Etching
Last half metre...
This was created in a two-step dying process. After the first dye, instead of a block, a brush was used to cover the entire length of the cotton fabric with a thin layer of wax. Once dry the fabric was folded and scrumpled up to create cracks in the wax in preparation for its second dip in the dye. The only parts of the cotton fabric which were subjected to dye during the second dip were the little cracks where the dye managed to seep through. Finally the whole piece was boiled in water to remove the wax.
