A Japanese fan pattern... two dye baths and two hand-carved blocks were prepared to create this batik. The first block applied wax to all the white areas you can see and then the material received its first dye bath. The second block applied wax to all the light grey areas you can see and a second dye bath followed. That's how three shades of colour are achieved.
