Diamonds (Black Iron / Red Alizarin / White Resist)
It reminds us of some of the stunning silvery jewellery the women wear in the desert of Kutch, where this material was dyed and printed by a man called Viram. Our Twitter banner is a picture of him printing this piece. He created it using two blocks; one of which to print a resist which once washed off revealed the beautiful ivory colour of the natural cotton. The other block was used to print a mordant and resist for the red dye. For the black background Viram used a brush.
